The first camping trip of the year got off to a poor start with the absence of our chums the Garners, off games with a tummy bug.
However, the weather was good and a lovely campsite is only a short trot from the oldest (and only remaining?) river swimming club in England. The omens on the club notice board were not good....
No matter; use Devon types are hardier than that, so we donned wetsuits and cracked-on anyway. in the spring sunshine we had a great swim. Sure - it was chilly but the rope swing got our blood flowing and we pursuaded some other random punters on the bank that the water was so great that they should just get anyway; so they did in their pants!
I was in my 'I love Bude Sea Pool' cap just in case!
The facilities were basic to say the least, only a couple of roofless tin shacks for changing, a diving board and swing and the ubiquitous health & safety noticeboard. We ignored the fee as there was no there to collect it.
All rounded off with a gentle 500yd swim back down the river to our campsite. Ideal!
